What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national government system for providing people with disability the support they need. Deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people, and parents of deaf children, can apply to get support through the NDIS.
The NDIS will pay for disability related supports that allow you to live a good quality life and achieve your goals. Support can be things like flashing doorbell, interpreting for events with your hearing family, getting a job, deafblind communication or learning new skills.
The NDIS will also support you to build skills and capability so that you can participate in the community and employment.
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
To receive NDIS you must;
- be under 65 at the time NDIS is available in your area
- be an Australian citizen
- have a permanent disability
With the right NDIS supports and your own determination, you can change the course of your life.
